iFest 2012 – GreenTech Seminar

The iFest 2012 was held in all its glory recently. This online technical festival by IEEE student chapter, IITR served as a podium for young engineers to highlight their intellectual talents and to put them forth in front of the entire world. Green Dream Foundation was the event partner of this online festival. Students from all over the world participated in this grand fest and competed to show off what they are capable of. The main focus of this event was to help engineering aspirers let people know what they hold inside of them and how much talent they actually possess. This was a grand union of intellect, science, and technology.

Students were required to come up with their own idea and design of a ‘green city’, true to its name in all aspects. The challenge was to design a city, putting their imaginary skills in motion, which not just eats green but also works green and lives green completely. This not just drew the attention of the young minds, it was also successful in letting people know of the future of our planet and how it is being destroyed each day. The aim was to spread awareness about population – which is on a constant rise – and the rapidly vanishing forests. The aim was also to let people know that it is indeed possible to live green and save the planet before it is too late.

Indeed, green cities must be developed in order to meet the living demands of people and also to reduce wastage by a significant percentage.

The founders of Green Dream Foundation delivered a seminar on green technologies and their impact on the environment and the movement to save it. More than 100 students from the IITR campus participated in this seminar and interacted with the founders. Abhishek, the Executive Vice President and Co-founder of the organization talked about students’ social responsibility and the myths behind Global Warming. GDF’s Founder and President, Ashish talked about the ways students can go green in today’s modern day perspective. The seminar concluded with the prize distribution for Green Tech, the online event.

Green Dream Foundation’s TEDx appearance

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Delhi Technological University (Formerly Delhi College of Engineering) organized, Kartavya – Transforming India on 12th and 13th of April, 2012 in the DTU Campus. This initiative, in collaboration with Student World Assembly (SWA), aimed to ignite and spread social awareness among the people by discussing contemporary issues and challenges prevalent in the society.

By means of KARTAVYA, an effort was made to remind the leaders of tomorrow about their student social responsibility (SSR) and also counsel them about corporate social responsibility (CSR) which has become a matter of great relevance in the current scenario. The tributaries of knowledge, culture, visions and panoramas have to converge, to give this event its true meaning.

Our Co-founder, Abhishek Agarwal delivered a session on Global Warming and student’s role in bringing about an environmental change. He stood out as an emerging social leader among his peers, while the students looked up to him as a role model – he being the youngest in his lot. “It was an immense pleasure and sheer honor to come and speak at an institution which was my dream college, not too long ago”, Abhishek commented. “I also got to give my first autograph, it was flattering!”, he added.

Earth Hour 2012

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

Earth Hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney’s lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2011 took place on March 26, 2011 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at participant’s local time.

This year, Earth Hour 2012 will take place on March 31, 2012 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.

Green Dream Foundation & Earth Hour

Green Dream Foundation has joined hands with WWF India, 2nd year in a row to spread awareness for this event. Come, be a part of this global initiative and drive it in your school, college, workplace, residential complex, and around you!

In 2011, Green Dream Foundation associated with WWF India to observe this event in Delhi and its neighboring areas. Here’s a short video that we created then to instill a sense of awareness among the masses.

Green Dream Foundation participated in the Cyclothon organized at WWF India office on Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Pedal for the Planet is a cyclothon now organized for three consecutive years, by WWF to support their campaign Earth Hour. We even finished at the 20th spot (out of hundreds who participated). Here are some images.

To promote the awareness for this event, we organized a workshop at Ernst & Young offices in Delhi-NCR. We educated their employees about saving the planet and importance of this global event. Here are the pics from the event.
